This Sunday is the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year 'A'

A trap! That is how Jesus in today's Gospel describes the approach by the Pharisees when they ask if it is permissible to pay tax to the Roman Authorities. They want to get him in trouble with either the ordinary folk or with the Romans. Jesus' deft response not only puts his detractors in their place but also gives us a teaching to follow, namely, that we owe service to both God and those lawfully place over us.
